đŸ‘» Where is Bill this Halloween? Discovering some “head-turning” history at 1442 Brush Street in Detroit!

Today, Bill is at one of our favorite spots in our portfolio, 1442 Brush Street. Nestled in Detroit’s heart, this building is home to Fair Food Network and the powerhouse team of Ladies in Law. But did you know it has a spine-tingling past, perfect for Halloween?

Locals used to call it “The Mannequin Building” for good reason. Back in the early 1900s, Mario’s Mannequins operated right here, founded by an Italian master craftsman who brought life to Hollywood’s iconic movie displays. His studio looked straight out of a Vincent Price horror film, filled with mannequins crafted for Universal’s most chilling releases, like Frankenstein and Wolf Man. It’s said that after their eerie debut in theaters, each mannequin returned to Detroit, keeping the spirit of Hollywood’s golden horror era alive.

Mario was actually an apprentice-turned-owner, carrying on his mentor’s legacy and making this studio a hidden haunt for Detroit’s vintage collectors. Many of these mannequins, especially those with glowing eyes, have vanished from sight, leaving collectors and Halloween enthusiasts to wonder: how many remain? This spot on Brush Street has seen its share of curious tales—and it just might be the perfect spot to celebrate a haunted Detroit Halloween.

So, here’s to the mysteries of our favorite buildings and to uncovering stories that send a shiver down our spines! 🎃
