DETROIT —  Bamboo Detroit — which opened in July to provide shared work space and resources for entrepreneurs —  announced today that 17 new businesses are locating in downtown Detroit.

Located at 1442 Brush, the space had been unoccupied over a decade before the team of entrepreneurs moved in. The historic building is known as the Mannequin Building and was once a former German printing shop. Bamboo Detroit was started by Brian Davis, co-founder of the mobile app Friendect; David Anderson, co-founder of health app Health-Crunch; and Mike Ferlito of Ferlito Construction.

“We believe that entrepreneurs can help rebuild Detroit and that co-working can contribute to job creation,” Anderson said. “Our co-working space provides affordable space along with a community of people who want to contribute their skills to helping other businesses establish themselves in the city.”

Among the 17 companies to move downtown include Healthy Detroit, a nonprofit focused on improving the health and well-being of every Detroit resident; a marketing representative for Southern Tide, one of the fastest growing apparel companies in the country; and Michipreneur, an online community for Michigan entrepreneurs. Members often contribute their skills to helping other businesses, and host educational workshops and community events.

“We’re excited to welcome new businesses to the city,” Anderson said. “We want to maintain a collaborative space that’s always open to helping others connect and succeed in Detroit.”

Bamboo Detroit is now accepting applications through their website at BambooDetroit.com. Monthly memberships offers office desks, conference rooms, space for community events, Wi-Fi, mail services, and 24/7 access to the building.
